THE UP NOAH CENTER

NOAH works to raise Filipinos’ awareness of natural hazards. We believe that an increased awareness of disaster risk is key in cultivating culture of preparedness and reducing the catastrophic impacts of extreme hazard events. We do this by undertaking  advanced disaster science research and comprehensive and multidisciplinary assessment of hazards. The results of these are developed into accessible tools that are relevant for local government units, community leaders, policy makers, planners, and families to prevent and mitigate disasters.

WEB GIS DEVELOPMENT TEAM

We are a group of developers, data scientists, and geospatial specialists working together to improve community-wide disaster resilience. We build different web and mobile applications that aim to assist various stakeholders in disaster prevention and mitigation planning.

pLANNING TEAM

The UP NOAH Planning Team assists local government units and other institutions in conducting science-based climate and disaster risk assessments (CDRA) and formulating risk-sensitive local development plans, including Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUP), Comprehensive Development Plans (CDP), Local Climate Change Action Plans (LCCAP), and Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plans (LDRRMP), among others.

HAZARD TEAM

The UP NOAH Hazards Team is composed of scientists and engineers who conduct research and continuously develop high-resolution hazard maps and models of natural hazards such as landslides and storm surges. Using frontier science and cutting-edge technology, they systematically simulate, validate, and improve geohazard maps.

FLOOD MODELING COMPONENT

The flood modelling component uses simulations to create high resolution flood hazard and flow depth maps for different rainfall scenarios. The team continually conducts research to improve their methods, streamline their processes, and to ensure that their models and methods are as accurate and up-to-date as possible. Flood maps can be used to calculate flood risk, situate evacuation centers and routes, and to assess the safety of critical facilities, among others.
